Philosophy: Using an evidence-based and scientific approach, Darra works with the individual to discuss goals, assess therapeutic needs, and develop treatment plans. He believes strongly in sharing his observations with clients so that they learn more about their bodies and are active participants in the healing process.

Educational Background: Darra first learned about the benefits of massage therapy while completing a certificate in Sports Injury and Fitness Management from University College Dublin, Ireland. He received his RMT diploma from Langara College in Vancouver. The program provided the opportunity to treat a wide array of populations including patients with spinal cord injuries and nervous system disorders, seniors and athletes. He is trained in Sports and Deep tissue massage, Myofascial Release, Trigger Point release, Neuromuscular Techniques and Joint Play. He also holds a Bachelor of Science (BSc Hons).

Personal History: Originally from Dublin, Ireland, Darra now calls BC home. Since his youth Darra has been a competitive athlete and has spent his lifetime mountain biking, climbing, trail running, ski mountaineering and participating in Gaelic games. Having sustained many injuries through these activities, he is acutely aware of the challenges of pain and decreased functionality, which initiated an early interest in therapeutic techniques. He has used this knowledge over many years in a professional capacity as a Wilderness Guide, an ACMG-certified Assistant Rock Climbing Guide and Outdoor Education High School Teacher, before pursuing further training to become a RMT. In his free time, he can be found in the Sea to Sky mountains on bike, Skis, on foot, or climbing rocks. To keep his mind and body healthy he practices yoga and meditation. He incorporates mindfulness techniques into his treatment to enhance therapeutic benefits.

BIO

Born and raised in Coquitlam, Elliot participated in many sports growing up and he enjoyed traveling, camping, and recreating with his family. His kinaesthetic aptitude combined with an intellectual curiosity for wellness and healing led him into massage therapy. He has lived in the Sea to Sky corridor since 2017 where he continues to explore his passions. He loves to ski, hike, bike, surf, climb, paddle and get into the backcountry. He trains Jiu-jitsu regularly, currently holding the rank of blue belt.

PHILOSOPHY

Elliot is a practitioner that embodies both therapist and trainer roles. He recognizes the gap between evolution and modern culture and helps bridge this gap through both massage and movement modalities. Elliot believes in the versatility of massage, which can contribute to a broad set of client goals including rehabilitation, recovery, pain relief, tissue mobilization, enhancing body awareness, maintaining and improving range of motion, and supporting mental health.

EDUCATION

A graduate of the West Coast College of Massage Therapy in New Westminster, Elliot completed intense academic and clinical training and received the designation RMT in 2017. Furthering his education, Elliot has studied the Functional Range System (FRS), a mode of training that focuses on functional mobility, joint health, and movement capacity. Within the FRS educational system, he has achieved his FRSC, FRA, FRC, and Kinstretch certifications. This pursuit has not only broadened Elliot’s skill set but also enriched his understanding of exercise programming, assessment, and treatment strategies.
